I-44 Overpass Public Art Project
Artist Concepts for Public Comment

Greater St. Louis, Inc., working collaboratively with the City of St. Louis, and the Missouri Department of Transportation, has embarked on a process to create a site-specific artwork for the area under the I-44 overpass at Tower Grove Avenue as part of the Tower Grove Connector Project.

The artwork is intended to:
1. Create a sense of welcome and reflect the unique character of the adjacent neighborhoods and business district, as well as the Missouri Botanical Garden and Tower Grove Park.
2. Serve as a connector, helping knit together the north and south sides of the interstate and linking older institutions and neighborhoods with the newer businesses and development happening in the area.
3. Support the use of the Connector by reinforcing that it is beautiful, safe, lit, well-cared for, and used.

After a national Call for Artists, three artists were selected by the I-44 Overpass Art Selection Committee to develop concepts for an artwork:
- Ivan Toth Depeña
- Ikene Iejoma
- AJ Davis and Jeremy Freiboth

Public comments on the proposed concepts were collected and shared with the Committee. The final decision on which concept to move forward with will be made in January 2026, with installation anticipated for 2026.
